Awhile back, I was contacted by pivotal California street artist, Jeremy Novy about submitting some of my CLOUDZ work into his new touring art show: 'A HISTORY OF QUEER STREET ART' - I submitted my work and was accepted and included in the show. CLOUDZ by TY will be included in the show in Los Angeles in February. This is my first professional representation in an official show and I couldn't be happier or more thankful to Jeremy for his support and fire - here's a bit about Jeremy, the show and our message to the world. The voice of CLOUDZ will be spread around the world.

"Queer street art has always been an oppressed art form," he says. "We are not taggers. We're street artists. This is for social change. It's about doing something better."

A sign of Novy's growing influence: A new exhibit he organized and curated received indirect funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the San Francisco Arts Commission. "A History of Queer Street Art," on display through June 25 at SOMArts, features gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender, and a few straight street artists from around the world who — like Novy — are plastering public spaces with in-your-face imagery with overt gay or queer themes. The Los Angeles artist Homo Riot, for example, is known for his stencils of kissing bearded men.

These artists — most in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s — claim to be at the forefront of a new street-art movement that is centered in metropolitan areas in Europe and the United States, including San Francisco. Their work, they say, is fighting homophobia.

"I'm really doing it to communicate, predominantly with gay men, that we're out there and we can be bold and we can be visible, and that's okay, and that's a good thing," says Homo Riot, who signs his work with the moniker B A Homo. He also argues that his work carries a message to heterosexuals: "Don't take us for granted. Don't belittle us. We're out here, and we could be on your street corner, and we're about this far from taking to the streets and causing trouble."

*In some short personal news, I'm all moved into my apartment on West 4th street in the West Village of New York City - I've slowly but surely filled it nicely with furniture and food - I'm working on finding good part-time PA jobs that will leave time for auditioning. I've planned my first audition, it's in a week, for a big season of shows, go in-sing 16 bars-leave....I can't wait. I have tickets to see this show "WOMEN ON THE VERGE... and I'm SO excited about it. I'm going in November when it opens! Full report coming soon. Until then, I'm off to edit my resume and explore my neighborhood.

WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN is a new musical based on the film. LCT's Resident Director, Bartlett Sher, still happily reeling from his achievement on South Pacific, leads the extraordinary collaborators Jeffrey Lane (book) and David Yazbek (music and lyrics). Lane and Yazbek, the team behind Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, have taken Almodóvar's tale and infused it with their own wry, comic style and an irresistible Spanish beat.

Both touching and hilarious, it's a story about women and the men who pursue them... finding them, losing them, needing them, and rejecting them. At the center is Pepa (Sherie Rene Scott) whose friends and lovers are blazing a trail through 1980s Madrid. And why do they all keep showing up at her high-rise apartment? Gazpacho anyone?

Along with Pepa, there's her missing (possibly philandering) lover, Ivan (Brian Stokes Mitchell); his ex-wife of questionable sanity, Lucia (Patti LuPone); their son Carlos (Justin Guarini); Pepa's friend, Candela (Laura Benanti), and her terrorist boyfriend; a power-suited lawyer (de'Adre Aziza) plus a taxi driver (Danny Burstein) who dispenses tissues, mints and advice in equal proportion. Tonight I had the privilege to accompany Ms. Rita Fredricks Salzman (who for quite some time was a board member at the SASA) to the Stella Adler Studio of Acting - Fifth Annual: Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts. Tonight was particularly featuring "Some short works of Margie Gillis". Margie is a dancer, and an incredible force of energy and beauty. Fearless stories told through lighting, music, and dance - her extremely long beautiful grey hair, sweeping across the stage like magic. It was an intense piece in which she finished fully nude, eventually facing the audience. It was a shock to say the least, in a good way, but that was the point, it was so powerful, it was integrated with the story, and her command of the stage and her state of emotion was precise and honest. Sometimes it takes a shocking moment in theatre, tv, or life to wake us back up. Twas wild. Below is an example of her solo dance work.

While at the event, I had the opportunity to mix, mingle and network with some interesting people. I ran into and later had drinks with Elizabeth Parrish, who played Jacqueline in the original Broadway production of 'La Cage aux Folles' - as well as Helga in the original Broadway production of 'Deathtrap'. At the event, sitting 2 seats down from me, was a truly fascinating woman named Carmen De Lavallade - she was very nice, and held wonderful conversation. A pioneer for women in dance. One of her MANY credits in acting, dance & direction is her choreography for both 'Porgy and Bess' & 'Die Meistersinger' for The Metropolitan Opera.

All in all it was a wonderful night out at the theatre. I'm happy to start seeing more non-commercial work in New York, sometimes it seems you're either on Broadway playing to 10000 people, or you're in a basement playing to 10 - I'm sure there are plenty of theatres inbetween, but for now, I've seen the very high and low spectrums of spaces, and the smaller stuff is better. It's like the difference between Disney and your local traveling circus.

Today I went out with Jessica this morning to the 8th Ave street fair, spent the rest of the day walking around Columbus Circle and Central Park - headed back up to my friends apartment in The Heights and got ready for dinner. We had a wonderful dinner at Don Giovanni's, located in midtown - such a great place, good price and nice ambiance - close to the b'way theaters and my new (hopeful) apartment on West 46th, Anyway, after dinner and drinks, I had the bright idea that since we were in the area, we should stagedoor a show and try to meet some Broadway actors, we decided it would be either Little Night Music, to meet Bernadette & Elaine Stritch, or Promises Promises to see Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth.....and the winner was...... PROMISES PROMISES!

While waiting at the stage door for Promises, Promises, I noticed a very familiar face to my right, and low and behold, it was Broadways #1 vocal coach and hilarious vocal deconstructor: SETH RUDETSKY, I introduced myself and he was really nice, I talked to him a bit about Texas State and moving to NY and he knew who Kaitlin Hopkins was and told me to tell her hello. He was a good sport and took a picture. We actually ran into him again, like 20 minutes after this picture, when we got on the subway to head home.

We got there really early, so we were in the front of the barricade, we got her attention (we had a big group) and told her we were from Texas and she was overjoyed to meet some fellow southerners, she told us that she would take her one picture she takes at the stage door on us! She was, like everyone else says, very small, beautiful, and hilarious. All in 3 seconds, she's a whirlwind of energy, and from what everyone said, she had a great show.

After Kristin came out, the other headlining star, Sean Hayes (most popularly known as Jack on 'Will and Grace') came out of the building - he got a large amount of applause and cheers and photos upon his entrance at the stage door, he was very down to earth, very funny and chatting with as many people as possible - - he came up to us personally to thank us for coming but he had to run. You gotta appreciate that kind of willing connection with fans, not superficial at all.

Was walking around my new apartment area and came upon a big ol' street party!! People as far as the eye could see, all the way from 42-59th, selling scarves, sunglasses, hats, clothes, ALL types of food...was great.

I've been going wild getting everything together for the application process of renting my apartment, nothing like a week of New York Real Estate, waking up at 10am and hitting the pavement all day, looking at 7 apartments per day, searching for the diamond in the rough, through various brokers, at various location, with varying fee's....it's all over. I found a place, got everything I needed in order to apply, and gave it to him today, in front of the apartment @ 515pm. I find out on Monday if I get it. It's weird that I'm sort of nervous...I feel like I auditioned for a show and I'm waiting to hear back.

In other news -Today, I was early at the appointment with my Broker to give him my paperwork and I spent some time at The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Midtown. It's only like 15 minute walk from my apartment. I heard beautiful organ music coming from the door when someone walked in and I followed. It was beyond words. I went in and was moved, I sat down for 20 minutes. I don't find myself a very religious person per-say, but I lit two candles, one for my life in Texas and one for my new beginnings in New York CIty, making peace with all the fast paced changes, trying to embrace and accept instead of stress and be anxious all the time. It was cathartic to go into the church and remind myself to surrender all my "woes", give it over to the power of the energy and the beauty the space. The way people would come in a pray, light candles, chant....it was inspiring. True faith. I'll probably go back and sit with my thoughts if I ever feel overwhelmed again, or perhaps before an audition. It was so calming.

New York mesmerizes me, I get to see more people of different colors, smells, backgrounds, class in just an HOUR than I had come across in Texas in a month. I probably encounter just as many non-english speakers as I do people who speak english. I love the visceral feel of the melting pot. It's a twisted mix of old and new, rich and poor - the highest contrasts of all spectrums on every block. One block and can make you nervous and smell bad with dimly lit scuttles of rats, but as soon as you turn a corner and look up, there's the Chrysler Building, beaming with the sunset on it and some kid with a snake around his neck walks by and says hello with a smile.

I walked from my apartment at 46th uptown to Columbus Circle @ 59th, and it didn't take me but 15 minutes. I'm still adjusting to how long subways take to get me different places, or if I should just get above ground and walk and how long it takes to walk 10-20 blocks - I'm a fast walker naturally, so I can make good time. My back is sore every night, my calves are sore since the day I got here, it's getting better, and luckily I'm not apartment hunting, going up and down to the 5th floor 14 times in a day. Taking things easy until I find out if I get the place or not. Enjoying the beauty of the city, eating street foods, pizza and good asian food!

*BTW I'm still waiting to receive press pictures back from the Apollo Theatre performance of Swimming UpStream, it was wonderful and I have news of meeting some very SPECIAL celebs at the event, check back soon.

The best food I've had so far/ever in New York City - the most authentic New York diner ever, check out the menu HERE it took us so long to decide what we wanted, but the girls got Burgers and I got a chicken salad sandwich. Food was great, menu is enormous, ambience is great, you can sit out on the street or inside. You have to walk through the kitchen to get inside...sort of...it's interesting. Check it out if you're here or you ever visit. It's DEF worth it.

My first night in New York City, it was actually great. The flights were fine, I sat next to a 70 year old black stand up comedienne from Chicago, she drank 2 bloody mary's and told me a few life stories and gems of wisdom "don't let that city rape ya boy, it will, I know....". Uhhhhhhhhhhmm. Anyway, I got to my friends apartment safely, they helped me lug my shut up 5 flights. We ate locally in Washington Heights and left for Soho at about 9 to celebrate FASHION's NIGHT OUT - all the stores in NY and around the world were open until 11ish, partying with music, DJ's, "red carpets", free champagne-wine-spritzers and carpaccio...random but good. We attempted to get into the Chanel party....to no avail, we did not look expensive/trendy enough to be seen and the doorman was not having it. It was really crowded but had good energy, lot's of wonderful stores, some actually moderately priced, found a WONDERFUL alternative to Forever21 or H&M, it was described as "H&M blended with American Apparel" great prices, wonderfully modern design, and BEAUTIFUL vibrant colors. It's called UNIQLO (shown to me by THE Kelly Bales - it's incred: http://www.uniqlo.com/us/ - for now, I'm looking for an apartment daily and taking things in, my new mantra, ONE DAY AT A TIME.

   A little status update about my life. This summer I finished a 50 show run of the musical The Drowsy Chaperone in Austin, Texas at ZACH Theatre, directed by Nick Demos, Tony winning producer of MEMPHIS. I had a fantastic time, and since the closing of the show I have shlepped all my shit to Houston, my hometown, and got my wisdom teeth pulled out. All four of em' - it was hell, but the swelling and bleeding has finally ceased and the bruises are minimizing as well, so I'm on the road to recovery. In other news, I'm moving to New York City on September 10 - where I'll pursue my career as an actor / artist. I have some jobs lined up, but nothing to announce until things are finalized. I'm staying with some friends in Washington Heights until I find an apartment in the East Village/Midtown.

   Not only am I excited to be in the city to begin professional auditions on a weekly basis, but I'm excited about my day job. I'm going to be doing personal assistant work, part time, for two different people. Organizing schedules, creating and maintaining different means of social networking and social media, scheduling, emailing - all sorts of other tasks and errands. I've basically done this type of work for the past 3 years as a Teachers Assistant to one of my professors. I can't think of anything I would rather continue doing - not only keep my life organized, but help someone else do the same thing. I'm a little obsessed with desk supplies and I think with this job, i'll be using lots of them. I'm excited to be out of college and starting a real life, a job and new surroundings. I'm hoping that in order to stay organized, I have to buy an iPad....we'll see. *OH OH I bought a new suit! My first suit, it's beautiful, and It's being tailored as I type, picking it up tomorrow!!

   Anyway, I'm bringing GLITTERHORSE with my to NYC and I'm SO EXCITED to attend different events around town and blog em' right back to you - I'm proud to announce the first event I'll be attending is: SWIMMING UP STREAM a Katrina theatre benefit directed by Even Ensler featuring Academy Award Nominee & Tony winning actress, Shirley Knight IMDB. I'll be attending the event with Shirleys daughter and head of Texas State Musical Theatre, Kaitlin Hopkins. She has invited myself and fellow 2010 graduates: Caitlin Hales, Braden Bradley and Grantham Woods to accompany her and Shirley to the event. The performance is taking place at the world famous Apollo Theatre in historic Harlem. You know the one, from SHOWTIME AT THE APPOLLO....thats the one.

"Eve Ensler (writer of The Vagina Monologues) directs Swimming Upstream, a theatrical production written by 16 New Orleans’ women who survived Hurricane Katrina and managed to write about it with grace, rage and humor. The production includes performances by Troi Bechet, Asali Njeri DeVan, Anne-Liese Juge Fox, Karen-kaia Livers and singers Michaela A. Harrison, Leslie Blackshear Smith and features Shirley Knight and Kerry Washington."

I'm excited to bring glitterhorse to a whole new level in New York City, begin attending more events and getting our name out there even further. One of the interesting perks of being born in 1988 is the use of an internet connected computer by 4th grade (8-10 years old) - being 22 now and having grown up alongside the dawn of internet crazes : AIM chatz groupchats and cybering attempts (don't forget coming up with SECRET screen names). My favorite thing about the internet is the self-mocking manipulation of content. Copyright is so easily ignored due to the quickness of the web. Wikipedia is my ultimate example, it's run by us, to manipulate however we choose. It's a little ridiculous, yet we all accept it - I'm infatuated with the comedy of remixed youtube videos, shock sites and general crazy shit. When someone takes a piece of something else and reproduces in a different way, it can be a beautiful, serious LOL video but more importantly, an entire new genre of art. Spice Girls Musical Details Revealed

The Spice Girls musical will be about a reality TV show and won't feature any characters based on the five singers.

The Spice Girls musical will be about a reality TV show.

The forthcoming project - titled 'Viva Forever' - will use the girl group's music, but "won't be a tribute or bio show" of the 'Wannabe' hitmakers, instead analysing the fickleness of modern fame in the era of instant celebrity - which the Spice Girls predate.

Producer Judy Craymer said: "We live in a world dominated by people wanting to be famous. What the Spice Girls did was before those shows became really what they are, and before the world become slightly obsessed by such shows.

"'Viva Forever' will encompass the Spice Girls ethos of friendship, identity and being true to yourself, it won't be a tribute or bio show, nor will it feature characters with any of the names of the famous five piece."

The show will be written and produced by Judy - who was behind the stage adaptation of musical 'Mamma Mia!' - with comedian Jennifer Saunders. Although it analyses fame, Judy said it would, however, still include more light hearted elements.

She added: "It has a glimpse of the underbelly of TV talent shows, an invented show, and a little bit of comedy romance."

The Spice Girls - Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell - all met late last year to discuss the musical and Mel B, 34, has revealed how pleased they are to be working with Judy on the project.

She said: "All five of us are really super excited. We don't do anything unless all five agree.

"All of us loved 'Mamma Mia!'. We needed someone who would have a great vision alongside ours."

The musical will reportedly feature 14 of the group's songs and is expected to open in 2012.

I was recently watching episodes of Drag Race on http://www.logotv.com (full episodes of ALL the DragRace drama) and I fell in love with JuJuBee. A one of a kind performer who's got plenty of sass but has such a great heart. A very vulnerable person who was born to be on the stage. You can't help but root for JuJu every. single. episode.

ANYWAY, I was visiting her website and online stalking, when I came across her Facebook fan page, I wrote on the wall for the page and she RESPONDED TO MY COMMENT!!!!!

kinda silly, but I thought it was special. Austin Critics Table Awards

Tonight I attended the Austin Critics Table Awards, where the critics of Austin arts, represented by various newspapers in Austin, come together to give out awards to notable Austin art associations, theatre companies, galleries, & orchestrators. I attended the awards on behalf of the musical theatre team at Texas State University for "Bat Boy: The Musical" directed by Kaitlin Hopkins, who originated the role of Meredith off-broadway and now serves as Head of Musical Theatre @ Texas State University. Our production was thankfully nominated for Best Musical as our Musical Director, Todd Lindamood and our choreographer, Robin Lewis who was nominated for Bat Boy as well as his other choreography for his theatre company, TexArts. Sadly, BatBoy didn't win (it was great just to be nominated for Austin Theatre awards with us being located all the way in San Marcos) the award for Best Musical went to a production of "Jon & Jen" directed by Dr. Mike McKelvey, who readers may remember as the director of Evil Dead: The Musical. Congrats to Mike and Andrew Cannata for a deserved win (even though Mike should have won for his direction of EVIL DEAD). That all aside, Texas State was WELL represented at the awards with 7 or 8 different nominations and TWO of our alumni winning awards for excellence in theatre.

Congratulations to A. John Boulanger for yet another award recieved for his original play "House of Several Stories" starring Lauren Lane & Martin Burke. The show has been performed at The Kennedy Center, The Blue Theatre, Texas State University as well as Austin Playhouse. For more information on John Boulanger and his latest playwriting endeavors, keep up with his production company. Check out a video interview and story written about John and his success in Theatre, done by Texas State University rising star program.

Big congrats to actor and fellow TxSt alumni, Michael Amendola, who won the award for Acting in a Supporting Role for his work in "Our Town" at Zachary Scott Theatre, directed by Dave Steakley.

The night was filled with plenty of drinks & great company.

The night ended with a few upsets (Laura Lane NOT winning Best Actor in a Play). Perhaps I'm biased for multiple reasons, but who cares, it's no news to anyone that Laura Lane is one of the best actresses in the Austin area, who not only has the ability to perform at an unbelievable level herself, but teaches her students that same carefulness and dedication required to make the most of your role in a show. You can currently catch Lauren Lane in BECKYS NEW CAR being performed at ZACH Theatre written AND directed by Stephen Dietz. The reviews are already in and the show is being hailed as a comedic smash!!

Congratulations to all the winner and nominee's, it was great to reconnect with so many people, met some new friends, and had a great time with some old ones. Quick shout outs to Pam Fletcher Friday, Jacob Trussle, Corley Pillsburry, Lauren Lane, Griffon Ramsey, Ken Hill, Alejandro Villereal, Catlin Uhlig, John Boulanger, my date Jade White & to the waitress at Cap City who, thankfully, kept the drinks flowing. 3 big announcements!!!

1. SISTER ACT: THE MUSICAL heads to Broadway in fall 2011

Just posted on the Stage Entertainment web site is official word that "Sister Act, the musical developed by Stage Entertainment in coproduction withWhoopi Goldberg, will go to Broadway in the spring of 2011. The musical opened one year ago in London and is now almost ready for an international rollout. This fall the show will premiere in Hamburg, Germany and there is interest from Japan, Korea, Canada and Australia."

Whoopi Goldberg confirmed recently on the J oy Behar show as well that she will be brining Sister Act, now playing at The London Palladium in the West End, to Broadway in 2011.
While speaking with Behar, Goldberg reveals:

BEHAR: [following a clip of Sister Act] That was the scene from "Sister Act" and Whoopi as a singing and dancing nun. You`re going to be producing this show on Broadway?

GOLDBERG: Yes in 2011 we`ll bring it here. It`s in London now.

BEHAR: It`s so perfect for a Broadway musical.

GOLDBERG: Yes.

BEHAR: It was a no-brainer to get it together, right?

GOLDBERG: Well, I, you know, I came to the process late because the original folks said that they decided to do it hadn`t contacted me and didn`t, I guess, want my input.

BEHAR: Uh huh.

GOLDBERG: And the man that subsequently took over called and said, we would like you to be part of this. Okay, sure.

BEHAR: Well, I think it`s going to be fantastic.

GOLDBERG: Well I mean it is fun. It`s fun. You know, this is never -- you never think that a movie you`ve done or anything you`ve done has another life.

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC currently stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury, who will play their final performance on Sunday, June 20th. The production will be dark until performances resume on Tuesday, July 13th starring Bernadette Peters as Desirée Armfeldt and Elaine Stritch as Madame Armfeldt.

"Our latest work in Rio de Janeiro. It's called Praça Cantão and spans over 34 houses, covering 7000 square meters. We are slowly moving towards our goal: painting an entire favela and we're getting closer and closer.

Over the last month, Praça Cantão, the square at the entrance of the community of Dona Marta was turned into a vibrant artwork of monumental scale. 34 houses on the giant hillside favela, located in the center of Rio de Janeiro, have been painted in a design of colorful rays, radiating into the city. This 7000 square meter artwork is part of the 'Favela Painting' project by Haas&Hahn (Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn), a project that aims to transform communities into landmarks and inspirational monuments as a part of Rio’s image, next to the statue of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf mountain.

Realization of the artwork is largely driven by the inhabitants of Dona Marta. 25 local youth have been trained as painters, providing for their own income and being responsible for turning their own neighborhood into a colorful monument. This grassroots method of working has proven to be successful in earlier projects, and gives the local community empowerment, pride and color. The local team is complemented by three painters from another favela, Vila Cruzeiro, where two of the previous projects by Haas & Hahn took place.

The project has thusfar been financed through grants and donations, but a co-operation with the dutch paint company AkzoNobel might open new doors. A meeting with their Managing Director Tex Gunning, showed they had a shared vision. “They wanted to give color to the community”, Dre recalls, “and we wanted to give art to the community. I see no reason why we cannot recreate this idea across 300 houses, 3000 houses, whether its in Rio, Johannesburg, Mumbai or anywhere in the world.”

Favela Painting is supported by the Firmeza Foundation in the creation of striking artworks in unexpected places. It collaborates with the local community to use art and color as a tool to inspire, create beauty, combat prejudice and attract attention. The Foundation facilitates the worldwide realisation of art interventions, and looks after their maintenance. It also develops relevant spin-off projects in the areas of education, socio-economic / social support and development of local people involved in the projects.

I preface this post with my addiction to 'oh so poppy, grab me another four-loko' music. I love top 40 for it's good and bad. That being said - this summer, I've recently been hearing a new jam on the radio. Katy Perry's: CALIFORNIA GURLS. A really fun dance hit that Ke$ha wishes someone pitched to her. This song is going to TAKE OVER your radio this summer so you might as well get used to it. Now, we all know it's pretty much a HUGE rip off of Britney's track TROUBLE from Circus. (at least the intro) You be the judge. ANYWAY - I love this song, calssic SnoopDogg interludes, talkin bout ass, drank & weed - a formula for American hits.

Tattoo's are always a fun topic, many of my friends have them, one of my friends just got one - and one day, I want one. From time to time I peruse internet sites filled with thousands of trannytastic tattoo shots, but a few have caught my eye. Full back tattoo's to be exact. So tonight, on this summers eve - we celebrate the souls who shelled out thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours getting tiny needle shoved in and out of them (thats what she said) - but don't get carried away, read the fine print, I'm not celebrating the tattoo content, just the fact that they had the balls to do what they did.
